Ding Yi Music Company

Traversing

Synopsis

Traversing opens Ding Yi Music Company’s 2026/27 season with a bold statement of artistic direction—one that embraces music without borders. Conceived as a journey across cultures and traditions, the concert brings together diverse musical languages from East and West, reimagined through the sound-world of a contemporary Chinese chamber ensemble.

Led by Chief Artistic Mentor Tsung Yeh in his annual concert with Ding Yi, the programme foregrounds borderless collaboration between composers, soloists, and ensemble. Pianist Ning An—Third Prize Winner of the 1999 Queen Elisabeth Competition and First Prize Winner of the 2000 National Chopin Piano Competition—joins the ensemble in “Youth” Piano Concerto (Chamber Version) by Liu Shikun, a work imbued with youthful spirit and expressive vitality.

Other highlights include a newly-commissioned Celtic-themed work by Cultural Medallion recipient Eric Watson and Tang: Moonlit Fragrance by Koh Cheng Jin. The programme also features a Hungarian Rhapsody showcasing the virtuosic flair of Ding Yi cellist Bekhzod Oblayorov, as well as Goddess of the Luo River by Tang Jianping, with a solo guzheng feature by Ding Yi’s Yvonne Tay.

As the season-opening concert, Traversing sets the tone for the year ahead—worldly, curious, and inviting—positioning Ding Yi as a dynamic platform for cross-cultural exchange, where many worlds meet on one stage.
