Ding Yi Music Company

Battle Scores

Synopsis

In a realm where music meets martial arts, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Ding Yi Music Company co-present Battle Scores—a bold fusion of Chinese chamber music and theatrical storytelling. This immersive concert invites audiences into a fantastical world where five iconic Chinese instruments—the huqin (Chin Yen Choong), dizi, guzheng (Yvonne Tay), percussion (Low Yik Hang) and suona (Jacky Ng)— embody the five great martial arts sects: Shaolin, Wudang, Emei, Kunlun, and Huashan. Through the clash of timbres and the dramatic confrontations among the sects, these musical avatars weave a stirring saga of ambition, conflict, and reflection.

Featuring original compositions by promising Taiwanese composer Hannah Hsieh and direction by acclaimed theatremaker Chong Tze Chien, Battle Scores is a genre-defying performance where sound becomes sword, silence holds weight, and harmony is the ultimate triumph.

Interactive, immersive, and steeped in the spirit of martial arts, Battle Scores invites audiences on a sweeping musical journey where the rhythm of combat gives way to the resonance of unity and peace.
