Bekhzod Oblayorov is a Singapore-based Uzbek cellist, recording artist, producer, and arts entrepreneur. Born in Uzbekistan, he trained at the V. Uspensky Specialized Music School before earning a full-scholarship Bachelor of Music from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, under Ng Pei Sian, Principal Cellist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
He is the First Prize winner of the Ilyos Ibrogimov Cello Competition (2014) and the Second Prize winner of the Young Talent International Competition (2017), and has trained in masterclasses with Suren Bagratuni, Alexey Seleznov, Daniel Veis, Shlomo Mintz, and the Curtis String Quartet. He has been featured in Lianhe Zaobao and Muse Magazine Singapore, and reviewed in The Straits Times.
As a soloist, he has premiered commissioned arrangements of Hungarian Rhapsody, Csárdás, and Dance of the Yi Tribe, conducted by Tsung Yeh and Qu Chunquan with Ding Yi Music Company and the Taoyuan Chinese Orchestra. His festival appearances include the UNESCO International Jazz Festival (Uzbekistan), the Yuriy Bashmet International Festival (Russia), the International Chinese Chamber Music Festival (Singapore), Beyond Borders Festival (South Korea), It’s Giving Fest (Singapore), and the Thailand International Composition Festival. He has performed across Asia and Russia, including appearances at the Esplanade Concert Hall and Victoria Concert Hall, as well as with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Sun Symphony Orchestra.
His recording and production credits include Third Rail, winner of Best Sound at the Asian Academy Creative Awards; Geylang, premiered at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival; Bound, screened at the New York Shorts Film Festival; and soundtracks for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics by Riot Games.
Bekhzod is the Founder of Artfella Music Academy, dedicated to chamber music performance and education. He performs on a c. 1890 G.A. Pretzschner cello on loan from the Rin Collection, Singapore.
