Chen Ning joined Ding Yi Music Company as a part-time musician before transitioning to a full-time position in 2022.
She began learning the erhu at the age of 10 under the tutelage of Xu Wenjing. Her early passion for the instrument led her to join the Chinese orchestras at Nanyang Primary School and later Nanyang Girls’ High School, where she was appointed sectional leader and concertmaster.
Chen holds a Diploma in Erhu Performance awarded jointly by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and the Central Conservatory of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from NAFA. She also holds a professional-level DipABRSM in piano performance.
Over the years, Chen has performed with various ensembles and orchestras, including the Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra and the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra, where she served as Zhonghu Sectional Leader until 2023.
In addition to her orchestral work, Chen has had numerous solo and duet performance opportunities both locally and overseas with Ding Yi. She has collaborated with musicians from Korea and Hong Kong, and greatly enjoys working with artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. She believes that music transcends boundaries and affirms that “music is indeed a universal language.”
