Synopsis
Presented under Singapore HeritageFest 2026, this maritime-inspired concert by Ding Yi Music Company invites audiences on a reflective journey through the waters, stories, and evolving identity of Singapore.
Ding Yi brings the expressive richness of Chinese chamber music to intimate works shaped by the sea and river — enduring symbols of the nation’s history, trade, memory, and transformation. The programme features pieces such as Wang Chenwei’s Sisters’ Islands, inspired by the poignant local legend of sisterhood and sacrifice, and Law Wai Lun’s A Prosperous River, which traces Singapore’s growth through the metaphor of a river, following a young boy’s coming-of-age alongside the nation’s development.
Through these works, the concert reflects on how stories carried by our waters continue to flow through Singapore’s past and present.
