Soh Swee Kiat
Soh Swee Kiat was from the Chinese High School in Malaysia, where he was the sectional leader in the Chinese orchestra and self-studied his instrument, the Sheng, in his early years.
In 2012, Soh came to Singapore where he began his studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) as the only student at the time to major in Sheng while studying Diploma in Music Performance. Soh graduated with a degree in Sheng from NAFA in 2017, under the tutelage of Mr Guo Chang Suo.
Soh participated in the 2014 National Chinese Music Competition (NCMC) and was awarded the first prize in solo open category and third prize in the ensemble category. He was then invited by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra to perform as a concerto soloist at the NCMC Prize Winner Concert.
Soh has represented Singapore at the International Music Festival Sharq Taronarali in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and ASEAN Youth Music Camp in Sagada, Phillipines. In 2016, he premiered Fantasia of Two Brothers in the concert, Shengscapes in Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
Soh joined Ding Yi Music Company in 2015 and is currently a full-time Sheng musician in the ensemble and resident-bass-sheng musician in Resonance.
