Yick Jue Ru
Yick Jue Ru is currently the yangqin musician at Ding Yi Music Company. She is well-versed in both yangqin and piano performance, having begun her formal music training on the piano at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (School of Young Talents) when she was six. In addition, she has also studied yangqin performance under the tutelage of Ms Qu Jian Qing from the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. Through the years, she has won several accolades and prizes in various International and National music competitions, both as a soloist (on the piano/yangqin) and as a chamber musician. She has also appeared as a yangqin soloist with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, playing the challenging "Phoenix" concerto.
Instead of pursuing a career in the performing arts, Jue Ru chose the path of an educator to fulfill her keen interest in teaching. As a BA (Hons) Music graduate from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Jue Ru graduated with First Class Honours and was awarded the prestigious Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award (previously known as Nanyang University Scholars Award), The Association of Nanyang University Graduates Book Prize for outstanding performance in music, and also the honour of being the Valedictorian. She also completed her postgraduate studies in music under a scholarship from the Ministry of Education. Jue Ru has presented some of her research papers at symposiums and currently teaches in the Music Elective Programme at College level.
