Main Roles and Responsibilities:

The Concertmaster holds the primary position of leadership for the ensemble and is responsible for setting a good example of musicianship and leadership. As a Concertmaster/Musician, he/she will rehearse and perform with the Ding Yi Music Company. As one of Singapore most prodigious Chinese chamber music ensembles, Ding Yi focuses on our music-making journeys through a vast repertoire ranging from traditional Chinese music to contemporary and cross- genre work, bringing the best Chinese chamber music to the Singapore and international stage. The ensemble has an annual season of concerts, educational and outreach activities and other events. He/she needs to play effectively on the Gaohu, Erhu and Zhong Hu, not limited to other Huqin instruments such as the Jinghu and Banhu.

 

A Concertmaster is expected to display high quality performance as a soloist and chamber musician with deep knowledge of Chinese chamber music. He/she should possess good interpersonal skills to communicate and lead effectively, including resolving artistic, technical and personal issues between members of the ensemble.

 

As a musical leader, the Concertmaster has to work closely together with Principal Guest Conductor, Assistant Conductor, musicians and the management team in fulfilling the artistic vision and mission of the Company.

Working Hours:

Minimum of 42 hours, capped at 66 hours per month.

 

Qualification:
Possess a minimum of tertiary qualification in music performance and preferably with experience in playing in a Chinese chamber ensemble setting.

 

Audition Information: February 2022

 

Audition Component:

• Performance of 2 Solo Excerpts (1 Gaohu and 1 Erhu)

• Performance of 5 Ensemble Excerpts (2 Gaohu, 2 Erhu and 1 Zhonghu)

• Sight-reading (only Gaohu)

• Interview
